Making An Icon, Breaking An Icon - 3D Printed Sculptural Installation

This interactive 3D art installation explores the duality of identity and the making and breaking of icons. In a darkroom illuminated by LED lights, viewers are invited to engage with two 3D-printed sculptures:

  1. Making an Icon – A pristine 3D-printed sculpture of clear Vero, lit from within, invites participants to arrange and rearrange delicate 3D-printed flowers. The act of creation evokes the crafting of an icon—Norma Jeane transforming into Marilyn Monroe.

  1. Breaking an Icon – A fragmented and broken visage of the same form, illuminated by LED light, challenges the viewer to reflect on the fragility and deconstruction of identity.

As the "maker," you are encouraged to question: Do you see Norma Jeane? Do you see Marilyn Monroe? How do we, as a culture, build and dismantle the icons we revere?
